Canon Rebel XSi / EOS 450D with BG-E5 battery grip
This is now my secondary camera, it supports all my Canon lenses. I had this camera for a few years now and it's my third camera in the EOS series. I choose to oufit it with a battery grip for two reasons, the first it that with the grip there is an included adapter that allowes you to use AA batteries if you are somewhere without the electricity needed to recharge your batteries. The other reason is that you can take around 600 pictures without recharging your batteries so that even for a shutterbug like me I can usually do a full day of photography on a full charge.
I purchased this camera in 2008 or early 2009, many models have came out since then 4 or 5 in this line alone but so far it's still gives me the results I want. Of course it's got limitations like the top ISO of 1600 and more noise in those high ISO then the new cameras but my budget says that I will be using it for a little longer.
The Pros of this camera:
1) Obviously it is quite resistant, I dragged it along on many trails in all kind of weather and it's still running perfectly as good as the first day.
2) The strenth of this camera was at the time the picture quality and the abbility to shoot RAW format, the quality of the pictures taken is still excellent even compared to newer cameras.
3) The inovation on this camera was "Live View" the possibility to use the back display to compose and take pictures. Although this is a common option now it was not at the moment I got the camera.
The Cons of this camera:
1) The Continuous Shooting Speed of 3.5 frames per second might sound good but in fact I would suspect it is a bit less then that when shooting in RAW format + jpg.
2) The maximum iso of 1600 doesn't compare to the newer cameras at 25600 iso with noise reduction.
3) It would be nice to also have the possibility to shoot video, this camera doesn't.
Finally here are some pictures taken with this camera:
