Sony NEX-5N Camera in 10bar housing

If you are going deep, you need different gear.

The first problem is pressure, at 100 feet the water pressure is more than 40 psi. Any dammage or inperfections in the seals and water infiltrates, so all seals must be verified after each dive. The body, especialy the door must be resistant to pressure. The Camera and the Underwater Housing are often made by different manufacturers. This is my case, I use a Sony Nex-5N Camera in a 10 Bar Housing.

The second problem is light, The deeper you go and the more colors you loose, Bellow 25 feet you need flashes to render the true colors. To be synchronised wit the camera inside the housing fiber optic cables are used.

The main part of the housing is machined from a single piece of anodised aluminium and the door is made of 3/4 inch of polycarbonate. The seal between them is protected by 2 gaskets and 2 locking mechanism. It's deepth rated for 10 Bars or 300 feets. The housing also comes 2 lens ports, in the housing business if you change lens on the camera you have to change the port in the front of the housing, they are also protected by 2 gaskets.

Flash photography under the water presents you with a small problem because there are a lot of particles and they create backsckatter so you need stroboscopics flashes to counter the effect. The flash system is comprised of 2 Sea to Sea Strobes mounted on anodised aluminium arms that can extend more then a meter flash to flash. They are connected to the camera by fiber optic wires.
